Through the past 13 years from the establishment of Outward Bound in Oman, their courses helped more than 19,000 participants to realize their potential.
Using a proven experiential approach to learning that has been refined over 80 years at Outward Bound schools around the world, participants have gone through an immersive learning experience led by Outward Bound Oman’s talented instructors in the inspiring and challenging environment of Jabal Akhdar.
The experience included discussions, group problem solving activities, hiking, and camping, providing a platform for participants to grow and evolve over the 4 days. The group was also able to benefit from the newly opened flagship training facility in Jabal Akhdar.
The patron of Lahunna is Eng. Naashiah Al Kharusi who is a former State Council member (2011-2019) where she served as a member on the social, economic and legal committees. In the second term, she was elected as the member of the office of the Bureau of the State Council. In addition, she was elected Vice Chairperson of the Women Parliamentary Office, Inter Parliamentary Union. Eng. Naashiah served as the President of the Omani Women Association for Muscat Governorate (2012-2014). Besides her advocacy of women’s issues throughout her professional career in Parliament and across government, she is a pioneer in the telecoms sector in Oman.
In 1972, she joined Ministry of Communication as Assistant Director of Telecommunication Affairs, contributing to the establishment of the 1st national telecommunication infrastructure in the Sultanate. Subsequently Telecom Policy Advisor to the Minister of Transport and Communications. She was appointed in 2002 (by Royal Decree No. 83/2007) as a member of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority.
Eng. Naashiah was also a founding board member of Information Technology Authority until her retirement in 2011. She also served as a board member of Omantel since its establishment in 1975 until 2002. She was a member of the Executive Committee for restructuring the telecom sector and chaired the task force in the preparation of privatization of Omantel.
The founder of Lahunna is Shatha Al Maskiry who has 20+ years of rich business consulting experience working for the largest global consulting firms which includes Arthur Andersen and PwC. Her international experience spans across the USA, UK, UAE, Yemen, China and Hong Kong. She is currently the Country Managing Director of Protiviti Oman and has been spearheading the development and growth of People, Culture and Change initiatives across the Sultanate which includes National Capacity Building. Shatha is responsible to design and execute the Sidrah program with seasoned professionals who coach and mentor the group of young women in Pathway B: Values-Based leadership for 6 months. Most recently, Shatha received an award in 2022 for Excellence in Mentoring National Talent by Al Mar'a Excellence Awards in Oman.
Officially launched in 1992 by the President of the Republic of Singapore, NYAA aims to provide young people with the opportunities and platforms to develop their potential with the long term objective of grooming them for service to the nation. To date, more than 600,000 young people have undergone the NYAA Program. Dr Charles Chao Rong Phua, CEO and Strategist-General of Solaris Strategies Singapore joined the participants on the Jabal Akhdar for 4 days, and is responsible to coach the group of young women in Pathway A: Project Based Learning for 6 months.
